January 1993 - Present Mostly self-employed. Sample tasks: porting Intek D++ database
engine to ODBC (1998-99); interim systems administrator for Siemens
Ultrasound (1998); SQL Server DBA in support of an electronic
commerce project for Humongous Entertainment (1997); supervised
an ISP's coversion from SGI/Irix to Sun/Solaris (1997) ; maintained
and enhanced an online credit-card processing system

April 1992 - Dec. 1992 Sierra Geophysics, Inc. Implemented parts of a user interface for
a seismic modeling system using Motif and C++. Installed and
enhanced makefiles and revision control systems (RCS, CVS) for
smooth configuration control and releases of a large system over
multiple platforms (HP, Sun,DEC, IBM RS/6000, SGI).
May 1991 - Feb. 1992 ESCA Corporation Evaluated object-oriented databases and
other development tools. Wrote technical papers and gave talks on
object-oriented technology. Installed Internet mail and Usenet news
on an organization-wide basis. Performed other related systems
administration tasks on Ultrix and SCO Open DeskTop systems.
1987 - 1990 Intek, Inc. Designed and implemented D++, a relational database
engine and C++-based 4GL, ported it to several different platforms
and windowing systems, and supported it. Ported Intek C++ from the
AT&T source, fixed many bugs and made many changes to support
DOS C compilers, wrote a manual, and performed technical support.
Taught C and C++ classes to junior programmers. Performed primary
systems administration tasks on Sun, Xenix, Unix V/386, and Apollo
systems, with secondary administration responsibility for a Novell
network. Designed a language to support graphical event-driven
simulations.
1985 - 1986 Telecalc, Inc. Designed and implemented a relational database engine
in support of a telephone operator scheduling/call processing
application.
1984 - 1985 Teltone, Inc. Designed a standard user interface system and tools for a
telephone call-accounting system.
1984 GeoSystems Software, Inc. Designed a Yacc-based language for an
automated mapping and surveying system.
1983 - 1984 Microrim, Inc. Worked on a never-released C-language rewrite of
RBase; designed the RBase Extended Report Writer language and
implemented the initial version of its front end.
1979 - 1983 IMSL, Inc. Participated in the design and implemented Protran, a
very-high-level-language for numeric applications; software tools guy.
1979 Brown and Root, Inc. Inventory applications in Cobol.
